December 24th

Christmas Eve
Ham dinner kicked off our Christmas Eve at home followed by Nativity scenes streamed onto the TV through the Mormon App, our traditional Christmas bells a la Grandma Kay, scattering reindeer food on the lawn, tracking Santa on the Internet (he was in South America), opening Christmas jammies and hearing Dessie squeal with excitement over the sibling gifts that they each gave one another (Ella broke the bank giving her sisters very nice stuffed animal gifts), leaving Santa a note with milk, cookies and carrots, and finally enjoying hot chocolate while Grandpa read to us, “A Texas Night Before Christmas.”

The kids ran to bed when we started chanting, “Santa won’t come until you fall asleep.” A quick phone call was then made to the Turners to talk with Grandma Barbara. Maris said that the Turners are praying for Kelvin to receive a new phone. A hasty last-minute final gift wrapping ensued and Santa’s helpers could finally rest in peace. Almost…after peeking in the girl’s room, we discovered that the girls had left special notes for Holly and Santa that needed to be addressed. Luckily, Ella was given an injunction: No wake-up call before 7:30 am and she is Miss Obedient!
