Bon Vonyage Family

On our final evening together, we went out to Grapevine Lake for a hike and to roast hot dogs and hamburgers. Unfortunately, we forgot the lighter fluid (which a nearby camper shared with us) and so our meal was delayed. However, we salvaged the evening when Stephen shared a wonderful campfire story about “Mariah and the Marshmallow Giant” as we roasted s’mores.

It was truly hard for our kiddos to say goodbye. Right after we waved our white farewell flags and watched them pull away, Dessie and Kayla started writing Mariah “I miss you” letters. Ella spent an hour crying in her room and wondering when she could see Brooklyn again. When I mentioned the summer as a possibility, she started negotiating for a 20-day stay at the Melessa’s house. I think that’s when you know it has been a successful vacation!
