I love going to the pumpkin patch and this year was truly the best year yet. I think all of my kiddos are finally at an age where they can all enjoy and actually do everything together. Plus, I was not constantly looking for a wandering kid, or worrying that someone was going to get trampled over. It was delightful. We had a wonderful time enjoying the bounce houses, hay ride, hay bale maze and choosing the funkiest pumpkin!
This October felt very busy and almost rushed to me. I'll be honest, I wasn't sure that I could fit in everything. But, we simply could not pass through the month without our spooky dinner and pumpkin carving contest. We had to extend FHE until way past bedtime, but the kids dined on mummy pizzas, goblin's teeth, vampire's blood, swamp monsters and ghost guts while listening to their favorite Halloween tunes and designing their award-winning pumpkins. You just have to make some exceptions for tradition!
I have never been more surprised than to realize that all of my kiddos stuck with the same Halloween costume for the entire month. Usually, by the time we've gone to a trunk-or-treat, a recital, a preschool party, or costume birthday party, we've each tried on a dozen different costumes from the pile. But, this year, everyone chose their costume and it stuck. Ella chose to be a Southern Belle; Kayla was Rapunzel; and Dessie was a little butterfly. I love how she would make her wings shake when you asked her to wiggle! I couldn't get everyone on board with thematic costumes, but they are all at an age where they need to express their own personal style and creativity in their choice of costume.
Anyway, we attended a trunk-or-treat at a local church around the corner where we enjoyed a meal and then our kids loaded up on treats until their bags were too heavy to carry. Of course, that did not stop them from wanting to walk around the neighborhood too! I now have enough candy to supply my piano box for the next year! (Shhh...that's a secret!--It's awesome!)
