Thanksgiving Week!
Let the Baking Begin!
For a big meal like Thanksgiving, the baking begins a few days before. I used this as a teaching opportunity and had Ella learn to make rolls and pumpkin cake this year--so fun. Stephen insisted on making a lemon meringue pie (which is apparently his favorite—I truly had no idea after 11 years of marriage!) He ended up making two pies since the first looked more like lemon pudding. But, when Cherin arrived to be his first assistant, the second pie was a success!

Happy Thanksgiving!
For Thanksgiving, we were privileged to be joined by Cherin’s family. I was so impressed with how well all of our kiddos got along. When we had down time, they were often choosing a board game to play together, or jumping on the tramp. (PS-we were blessed all that week with the most beautiful weather—truly amazing!) The girls slept altogether upstairs and the boys shared the toy room downstairs. We took the Melessas to all of our favorite Flower Mound haunts, including (of course) “The Flower Mound,” Grapevine Lake, Babes and the awesome light show at Frisco Square. We shared a couple of favorite traditions including making graham cracker houses and seeing a movie (Frozen—the latest Disney movie—I loved it BTW—Idina Menzel plays one of the leads and her voice is AMAZING!) over Thanksgiving break.
The big meal went without a hitch. All of the sides came together. Cherin brought the pies from Iowa. The Swartz family agreed to join us. The meal was ready on time. Plus, I rocked it this year on the turkey. I tried a roaster oven I picked up at Costco this year and it worked out really well. Plus, it freed up the oven to do other things. We continued the tradition of sharing things we are thankful for around the table. The kids’ table kept on choosing items like windows, plates, spoons, etc. It was a giggling grateful bunch!
Kayla was so unhappy to break the smaller end of the wishbone! Better luck next year! (see pics above)
