Our Grand Grandma
Grandma Lewis joined us on Halloween day and was able to spend the first few days of November with our family. Dessie had an epiphany during her stay: “Grandma is your mom and you are my mom!” She informed everybody she knew many times a day. It's several days later and we are still finding pins EVERYWHERE, but it was well worth it. Grandma can seriously get soooo much done. The kids were so lucky to have her help them with several new crafts and activities (picture frames, cross-stitching, autumn leaf hanging, owl cupcakes, couture dress design for their American girl dolls, etc.). Plus she did all of the family mending. We thanked her by sharing our spooky dinner tradition, filling the fridge with black walnut icecream, showing her the stash of diet hot chocolate and taking her to the flea market and fabric district in town. It was hard to say goodbye. As usual, Ella got all choked up! Luckily, she will be returning in six weeks for Christmas.
[Recap by Grandma] After Halloween, we left Flower Mound and drove eastward to a merchandisers' mecca: Canton. This is the place for those who worship stuff. Old and new, junk and jewel are peddled by those who sell and bought by those seeking wares and wears. It is the "Biggest Flea Market" west of the Mississippi and people travel for thousands of miles at the beginning of each month to experience this four-day event. Truly, moth and dust corrupt and items are sold for way more than they are worth—such fun!
We love to "walk the walks" of Flower Mound and Saturday morning, following chores, we walked while the girls rode their scooters to the local donut store. "Dollar-donut-day for the Daughters" is a "Do" on the list of To-do's." However, we did have a minor three-Band-Aid accident, which could have been much worse. Ella was micromanaging Kayla and Dessie and Dessie lost control and took out the other two. It is much like what happens when a bowling ball hits one pin and the surrounding pins go down. Their egos were bruised more than the knees--which was good!
Grandma brought her Arts and Crafts with her so we have spent time painting fall leaves, cross-stitching photo frames, and making owl cupcakes. Project Runway for American Girl dolls began Saturday and the "in-house" designer known as "Cinda'a Seams" created a six-piece ensemble for their three dolls. Now this is the life!
