Our Donald Authors

At our elementary school, they have a publishing office that allows each child to publish a book of their own creation each year. Ella's book was officially completed and she even had the chance to read it to her classmates. As her parents, we were invited to attend the reading. It was so cute to listen to her read her book to her classmates and then answer the questions after the reading. She’s quite the author! Kayla also wrote a book, but publishing is still working on hers! I have just included a small preview of their work (cover page and author's page, along with the text), but I think you'll agree that it is a pretty cool project.

Rosie goes to the White House
By Ella Mae Reber

(Page 1)
Once upon a time, there was a horse named Rosie. Rosie lived in a small town named Horseville. One day, Rosie went for a walk when all of a sudden, something landed on her head. She immediately thought, “The sky is falling.” Unfortunately, she didn’t realize, it was just an apple that had fallen from the apple tree above her.)

(Page 2)
Rosie knew that a falling sky was very serious. So she decided she was going to report the problem to the President of the United States. She ran and ran and ran across three states until she reached the White House. None of the guards knew how to stop a horse, so Rosie walked right on inside and began to explore the house.

(Page 3)
She went up 112 steps and then she found a circular room where she saw the President of the United States. Rosie thought he was so handsome that she wanted to kiss him. But, she remembered why she was there. “Mr. President, Mr. President, the sky is falling. Just now, a piece of sky fell on my head.”

(Page 4)
“How did you get in here?” the President asked Rosie. Rosie explained that she was from Horseville and a piece of sky had fallen on her head and she wanted to report it. “I’m sorry,” the President replied, “but that simply cannot be right. All of our best scientists have not reported that the sky is falling. You must be wrong. And I don’t want to cause a huge panic among the American people.”

(Page 5)
Rosie began to insist. That is when the President motioned to one of his guards. The next thing Rosie knew, she woke up in a cage. She was very scared and mad that nobody believed her. So she made a plan. She went backwards as far as she could go, and then she began to race and threw open the cage door. She was going to find the President again, no matter what!

(Page 6)
She went down 112 steps and again found the President eating soup in the dining room. The smell of the soup distracted Rosie and she decided to help herself to a bowl in the kitchen. She also helped herself to everything else on the countertop that she saw. She ate all the sandwiches, and pickles, and peanuts and carrots and peaches and spaghetti and yogurt and strawberries and much more. The President called to the chef to bring him some dessert. But, Rosie had eaten everything in the kitchen. When the chef realized that there was a horse eating all of the food in the kitchen, he began to scream.

(Page 7)
The chef’s scream alerted the White House guards. They called the veterinarian who shot Rosie in the back with a tranquilizer dart. She fell asleep and she had a dream. In her dream, she married the President of the United States. She was so happy. She had baby horses named Julie, and Daniel and John, Lucy, Anna, Danny and two twins named Abigail and Elizabeth.

(Page 8)
Then poof, her dream was gone and she woke up in a cage again. This time, the President was waiting just outside the cage. He told her that he had investigated the sky and it was definitely not falling. She was so happy that she kissed him through the bars of the cage. She thought she might marry him. But then she remembered her family at home and her brother and her sisters—Emily, David, Lolo, Lindsay, and the twins, Kyra and Mayra. And she remembered her mommy and poppy. She missed them so much that she started to cry.

(Page 9)
She realized she had two decisions. She could marry the President or she could go home to her family. She thought and she thought and she decided she wanted to go home. She blew the President a kiss and began to run, She ran and ran across three states until she arrived back in Horseville, where the sky had definitely not fallen, but there were plenty of apples to munch on all over the ground.

(Page 10)
Her family had a huge party with cake and ice-cream and apples and sandwiches and chocolates and spaghetti and all of Rosie’s favorites. She ate them all. She was very happy.
The End
