Eight Months Old

Eight months is such a great age. Olena is very responsive. She is beginning to babble to communicate pleasure and displeasure. She waves on occasion when we are greeting people or saying goodbye. She is pulling up on everything and cruising across the furniture. I often find her climbing up my legs and begging to be picked up. She says ma-ma repeatedly, but hasn’t yet formed the words, da-da (despite a lot of encouragement). She also gives huge open-mouthed kisses when prompted by the sound “Kisses? Mmmmmm.” We are working on “So big,” and clapping. When I lay her down at night, she immediately pops up and stands against the crib rails. She is a very pleasant, sociable baby. Our favorite trick is that she has started doing peek-a-boo. On one occasion when I was feeding her in her highchair, she grabbed at the drapes and then starting hiding behind the curtains. When she would peek out, Dessie and I yelled “Boo.” It became a darling little game that she loves to play daily. We are all enchanted with her.

Olena is growing so big. She is now sitting up in the tub. And I loved the first day I sat her up in the grocery cart. It was a complete game-changer. She loves the view and is much happier on our long outings! We have taken to calling her our little puppy because I keep catching her with shoes in her mouth. Or she finds something on the floor and assumes it is edible…she often hacks up pieces of leaves, dirt, toys, etc. Her teeth are dangerous too. One day I found her with a mouth full of crayon pieces. I have to sweep a lot. I have also reviewed baby CPR.
