New Years
We spent New Year’s Day as a family. We planned a hike around Grapevine Lake. Everyone was excited, except Ella. She was in tears before we left, and loudly proclaimed that she didn’t want to go and that it would be boring. But the weather was perfect and singing, “I left my wife and my 49 kids…” as we stomped along seemed to perk everyone up. Ella later admitted that we did have a good time. We hiked through the trees and played “Ninja” in an open valley. Kayla and Dessie love the windy road on the drive in and out. After our hike, we went out for Chinese food. The girls surprised us with their good behavior. The highlight was Ella hitting the bong as we left – indicating the meal we ate there was a good one! All heads turned. It was quite funny! Lauren and I are about to sit down together to watch Man of Steel (Super Man). A perfect day! (Stephen)
Resolutions 2014
This month is a time for resolutions and our family did make some time during FHE to think through some individual and family goals. Kayla's list of goals included the following:
Learn to ride a bike, Learn to read
Learn to swim
Learn to sit in my seat at the dinner table
Remember to flush always
Hula Hoop for one minute
Jump rope 100 times in a row.
She got herself busy and was the first person in our family to cross off a goal. She can now ride a bike by herself (stopping and starting, which was the issue before!). Hooray! She was so pleased that she wants to add more things to her list. She decided to read one scripture verse every day--I'm hopeful that will help her with her second goal.
Stephen was the second member of our family to cross off a goal when he found some names to take to the temple. I was really proud of him. Many of his other goals are mission related and he has already asked a neighbor if they would be interested in listening to the missionary discussions. Dessie wants to learn how to read and Ella wants to read 100 books. My goals are the same last year as this year...I intend to be caught up on the digital scrapbooking and the family movies. I think I will actually do it this year. I have been plugging away at the scrapbook consistently for the past year and I am finally into September 2013--I think I will finish in February! Then I can move on the movies :) And then I will be behind on the scrapbooks again...it is a never-ending cycle!
For family goals, we are going to memorize the Articles of Faith and we decided to corroborate with the church and use the youth's theme as our family theme for the year: Come Unto Christ! I think 2014 is going to be awesome.
Kayla's resolution essay that came home from school was too cute not to mention:
My New Year's resolution is to eat les candey. Be nis (nice) to udrs (others). Clen (clean)) up chrash (trash). Help udrs wen they are hurt. I will try to be a friend to udrs.
