Something to Smile About

We've been a little "tragic" today, so I thought I could use something to smile about...and you can tell from these pictures, that there is plenty to trigger a chuckle.

Stephen added drawer catches to prevent Kayla from getting into cabinets. Stephen assured me that he had to be in this position in order to get the best angle at his work. It sure made me smile. Plus, I've been getting major laughs today as I watch Kayla try to open these now off-limit cabinets. I find her frustration almost joyful--isn't that so wicked of me!

This fort provided a good two hours of entertainment--definitely something to smile about :)

Ella informed me that she would be doing the shoppping today. She then grabbed her grocery cart and her princess high heels. The footy pjs plus the high heels were cracking me up.

I had my activity girl group over yesterday to make clay figures. Ella joined in said, "Mommy, I made a flower for you." Isn't is beautiful?

This picture is my favorite, though it takes a little explanation. I have Ella trained for nap/quiet time. I lay her down in her room around 1:00, and she knows that she isn't allowed to come out until the digital clock says 3:00. (I should mention that the reason the last two numbers are covered with a book is because the first time I tried this, she was yelling for me at 1:30). Sometimes she sleeps and sometimes she plays, but we always get a little quiet room time every day. Anyway, this morning was odd. It was after nine and neither of my kids were calling for me. So I went to investigate. I found Ella awake in her room. She had obviously been awake for a while, based on the toys scattered around. The first thing she said to me was, "It's not 3:00 yet." So now I am wondering how long she would have waited!! But an extra hour or two to sleep sure is something to smile about :)

That is too funny..keeping them on a time schedule is a must. She must be a little smarty. Sounds like a crazy day of kid chaos.

I love the pictures. My favorites are Ella's first cheese face, the sleepers and princess high heels and Stephen upside down in the kitchen. So fun. And so nice to not have Kayla in the cupboards! Katie tears ours apart almost daily... why haven't I thought about those before? And I am so jealous of nap/quiet time, you are such a smart mom to train her for that!! :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post. Everything you wrote about made me smile. But that last story you wrote about was the best! I really do wonder how long she would've stayed in there! What cute girls you have!

You're hilarious!! I totally love the door latch locks!! I love watching the learning/frustration process my kids have to go through with each new lock!! Hee hee hee. I guess it's a true characteristic of a stay at home Mom - simple joys.

I love the digital clock idea! Lauren you are a brilliant mother! Maybe we'll give it a try here in Mesa.

Great post. I can't believe Ella knows when it's 3:00. She is a smart cookie. I hope the child proof latches slow down your little tornado Kayla. I need to buy a few more since Christina-zilla is always on the move, demolishing our cabinets. Ella's smiles are so contagious. Looks like you are all having some fun times!

For as much as a handful Ella is- it is so great that she is so intelligent! I laughed so hard at the clock story! Mom's need lots of moments when they take a break and smile about the little things like the mess of a fort! Good job!

Hi Stephen and Lauren! Lauren, if you're reading this and wonder who the heck I am...I went to school with Stephen and came across your blog through Dana's. I'm new to blogging and am so excited to see old high school friends. And yes, we're all old. Your little girl is so much like my daughter. In fact, she has the exact same pajamas and Snow White shoes! Cute girl! Nice to find you!

I hope we can keep up on the naps like that! I don't think we'll have too hard of a time though, if the room is dark Taylor will sleep in until 10:30 and then take 2 naps. I sometimes wonder if I let her sleep too much, but if she didn't I wouldn't get much done. :)
