Open House

One of my favorite events of the year is open house. The kiddos are usually so excited to show off their hard work and lead us around their classrooms. This year was especially exciting because Ella participated in a “wax museum.” Each third grader had to choose a significant historical figure and dress up as this person on open house night. Then they would offer visitors information on their figure when they “pushed the button.” Ella chose Elvis Presley. Her report was classic. One of the slideshows said the following: “He sang rock-n-roll and he got divorced.” The next one said: “He was addicted to drugs and he had a pink Cadillac.” These are the important details to a third grader. Kayla was as eager as I’ve ever seen her to lead us around her classroom. The first graders are doing a unit on Texas—I still can’t put my mind around the idea that my California-born children are basically full-blown Texans. We celebrated the success of the night with our favorite dessert stop: Braums!
