We added a new tradition this year that the kids just love. We opened up our new "Elf on the Shelf" book and carefully read the rules of "Elf Care." Ella was quick to write them all down and we were quick to assign our elf the name--Holly. Every morning the kids would eagerly wake up and try to discover Holly's new hiding place. And from time to time, I would discover Ella talking to Holly and showing her things. One day, I heard her say this: "Holly, I'm glad you are in this room. It makes me want to do my chores even faster so I can help Mommy get more things done." Let's just say that I am a fan of Holly.
Unfortunately one day, Ella discovered Dessie breaking one of the rules. The book clearly states that a child cannot touch the elf or she may not return to our home. This threw Ella into a melt-down! I tried to assure her that it was an accident and that I was sure Holly would know how hard they have worked to be good girls. But, she still woke up the next morning very anxious to make sure that Holly was still with us. She found her in a wreath with reeses for all of the girls. So our elf did return and forgave Dessie for touching her and all is right with the world again!
