I recently had a friend diagnosed with breast cancer. She will have to undergo several chemotherapy sessions and likely surgery, but her prognosis is good. Still, it is hard to just sit on the sidelines and watch a friend suffer. I really wasn't sure how to offer support and love. I am grateful to a friend who suggested we put together a group to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Dallas. So we signed up. Race morning, bright and early, our group of 25 donned on our pink accessories and our running shoes and tried to lend our support. It was truly a lot of fun and I was astounded by the numbers of people there. I think this quote sums up my feeling of the whole experience: “We cannot always lift the burden of one who is troubled, but we can lift her so she can bear it well” (Elaine L. Jack).

Good for you! My cousin is only 28 and just got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She's got a long road ahead of her. It's hard to know what to do for someone in this position, but our extended family recently did a breast cancer walk and they all ordered shirts for my cousin and everything and it did seem like a great way to show our love and support!
