We named baby Dessie after Stephen's paternal grandma--Dessie Emma Reber--who passed away this spring. I feel very lucky that baby Dessie was able to meet her namesake before her passing and very lucky that Stephen was able to attend her funeral. There are so many things that I admired and loved about Grandma Dessie. She was incredibly witty. I also appreciated her dedication to education. She raised her family in Littlefield, Arizona--a tiny town located south of St. George, UT. She taught at the one-room schoolroom for years. At one point, she even traveled north, with her five children up to Provo to finish her teaching degree. We will miss her dearly, but are comforted in our faith that we will see her again. In the meantime, I am grateful to pass on some of her stories (and jokes) to my children.
