Parenting 101: Tip 4

Yes, tis the season for treats and it has caused me to be on "red alert" for "Operation: Catch Ella in the act of stealing candy from the freezer and locking herself with it in the bathroom." With a sweet tooth and a sneaky mind, my toddler keeps me on my toes. Unfortunately, it is quite out of my power to remove all treats from the home. So, if you're like me, I would recommend buying a fridge that beeps when it is left open. This sound will alert you when a child breaks through defenses and finds the hidden treats; since of course, in her excitement at finding such a treasure, she will not remember to shut the fridge. You can then catch her red-handed with the treats and do with her as you will! Of course, for any child who likes to lock doors on you, I'd also recommend carrying around a bobby-pin to force open any locked entrance.

ABOVE: This is the picture of the cookie sheet AFTER Ella discovered it.

ABOVE: This is how Ella reacted when she was put in time-out for fingering each and every cookie. (We did not give this batch to our neighbors.)

ABOVE: Ella licks the cinnamon plate clean. (I had a cinnamon & sugar bagel for breakfast!)

PS- I believe my mother would have everyone know that my little Ella inherited her sweet tooth and sneaky mind from her mother!

I think that even with fingerprints - your cookies would still be good! We will take them any way that we can get them!

This is great advice..too bad I just purchased a fridge without this feature. My little boy likes to open the oven door now too, so I need a beeping one of those too. I love that you took a picture of cookie dough she had touched. She seems like a fun little toddler.

Smart appliances are a great idea! As long as the fridge isn't ever allowed to communicate with the bathroom scale, everything will be fine...

So funny! I'd like to steal some treats and lock myself in the bathroom.
Lex is such a sneak too. And a fibber. She blames Owen for everything now, even when he's napping. :0)
