Easter is always a big hit at our home. We got into the spirit of the holiday by making a LOT of “bunny bait” on Good Friday to take around to the neighbors. (Check out the recipe—we LOVED it!) This year, Ella was very concerned about the egg hunt. Last year, the Easter bunny decided to do an outdoor egg hunt because it was such nice weather, but the ants got to all of the candy before the kiddos could even start. She wrote the Easter bunny a very detailed letter asking him to leave the eggs inside the house. Luckily, the Easter bunny happily obliged and the girls had quite the egg hunt indoors. She probably shouldn’t have been too concerned because after a very successful community egg hunt, school candy and family hunt, all three girls really scored! We always include money in the eggs in honor of the Reber family and Easter dresses in the basket to honor the Lewis family (although my mom always handmade the dresses…oh well!) The girls were so cute in their new attire and I even have a matching dress for the arrival of Baby #4.
Bunny Bait
2 cups of pretzel sticks
1 bag of popped white popcorn (they sell this pre-made in the store on the chip aisle or I use the white microwave popcorn and do it myself)
2 cups of rice chex
1. Dump all of these things onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet and mix it up.
2. Melt one package of white almond bark in microwave. Start at 90 seconds and then keep checking it every 30 seconds or so until melted. You don't want it to cook to much- just to melt.
3. Spread evenly over the mix until all is coated. You will have to mix it around to get everything covered. Once that is done put one container of rainbow sprinkles and 1 package of m&m's. I like the mini ones but if you want it to look more like Easter they have the pastel m&m's in the Easter section.
4. You can change the colors to make it go with any holiday!
Also, on the religious side of things. Ella gave us the sweetest FHE lesson on the Easter-related topic of the Atonement and repentance. She even had a visual aid and typed out her notes:
We celebrate Easter because it is the time that Jesus performed the Atonement and died on the cross for us. Because of His Atonement, we can now repent when we make mistakes. When we are born, we are perfect and clean just like this water is clean and perfect. But, as we get older, we make mistakes. For example, I stole someone’s toy and I was no longer clean, just like this water (stir the food coloring in). But, because Jesus made it possible for me to repent, I was able to return the toy (little bleach), apologize to my friend (more bleach) and apologize to Heavenly Father (all the bleach and stir). And because of Christ’s Atonement, I can be clean and pure once again just like this water. Bear my testimony.
