Last year, we started a new annual tradition--a 5K race and Family Fun Run (1 mile) the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We call it the "Beat'Em Stephen" and we offer a prize to anyone who can beat Stephen. We ramped it up from last year and had a map created, posted signs for the route, sent out evites and made treats for after. The only uncontrollable factor was the weather. It looked a little dicey at first, but it cleared up in time for our race. Actually, it ended up being a wonderful family tradition. We geared Ella up to run the 1 mile and she started calling it "my race" all week long. You'll be happy to know that she came in 3rd place for the mile with a time of 10:16. Kayla and I were much slower (walk/running) about a 16:00 mile pace. Stephen came in 2nd place, losing only to a 19-yr-old cross-country star. He was pretty pleased with his time. So was I--it's helpful on the budget if he does well :)
