Saint George

St. George
Mom and I traveled from Provo to Saint George to enjoy a few more days of a restful vacation. We were really enjoying ourselves at the pool, the splashpad, DI and McDonalds with all of our cousins when the lice discovery was made in Ella’s hair. Along with a wonderful few days at Disney, trips to the beach, a tour of the Newport Temple, we were also given the gift of lice. I assume we got it from sleeping in the hotel and on the floor. Unfortunately, it took me three weeks to figure it out! Ella had been complaining regularly about scalp itch. So, I regularly checked her head and scalp and I did not see anything. Of course, I did not know what I was looking for. I always assumed that lice were WHITE…these were not! The color of the nits was the exact color of Ella’s hair. The only way to find the nits was to comb through the hair into a white sink and see what fell out. When we did that, I discovered LOTS of nits in all of the girls’ hair. Of course, that was only after I finally saw the live bug crawling through Ella’s hair…yuck! We think the kid’s might have accidentally spread the word that we had a “bug” problem at our home, because we heard some of the other Ivins’ families advise their kids to stay away from our kids. What a LOUSEY day. I hope I never have to clean up a lice epidemic again. It was SOOO much work. Luckily, with Mindy and Mom around it wasn’t nearly as bad. I can see a few advantages to sister wives.

BewarE
I love the picture of all of the girls crossing their arms over their heads. We’ll call that the ‘lice no more’ picture. Here were LaCinda’s thoughts on our lice problem:
Heads up!  It has been a “lousey’ week dealing with a “hairy” problem.  Apparently, at Cousin’s Camp, we shared more than just toilets.  We "picked" up a few hitch-hikers and drove them to Utah.  I had to “scratch” my head to solve the dilemma.  I was in contact with an east coast, micromanagement firm with expertise in “nit-picking.”   I was told it was caused by excessive over-crowding of timeshare units.  I was most worried about Kelvin--camouflaged “critters” building a resort community and “crawling” around in his mop top.  Normally, I try to be a good “host” but the only solution was to apply “solution.”  Just “itching” to solve the problem, we put 15 “heads” together. “Lice happens!
Family Funnies:
Cinda:  I never thought I would be looking for nits in my 31 year-old's hair.
Lauren:  I never thought I would be looking for bugs in my mom’s hair.  By the way, do you know that your roots are really gray?
Cinda:  Shh!
Lauren:  One adult, fertilized female can lay 10 eggs per day.
Mindy:  Are you telling me that things are mating on my scalp?
Cinda:  Yes!
Mindy:  Well that just bugs me.

Enter Stephen
During our Saint George week, Kelvin, Dad, Ed and Stephen were all arriving on the same day to join the party. We had carefully orchestrated their arrivals to coincide. Unfortunately, the airport gods were not kind to Stephen. Mom was the designated shuttle service from Vegas to Ivins. Kelvin was the first to arrive from Idaho at noon. Mom and Kelvin spent the next 7 hours shopping and trying to entertain themselves while they waited for Stephen arriving via Spirit at 7 pm and the Dad Lewis & Ed team arriving via Allegiant from the Gateway Airport at 7:30 pm. The only problem was that Stephen’s flight was delayed with summer storms in Dallas and he did not arrive until 12:23 am (5+ hours late). The airline kept on announcing delays of only half hour increments. Annoying! So Mom, Dad, Ed, and Kelvin waited. Then they had to wait some more while Spirit tried to find a gate for Stephen’s plane and then they waited some more for his bag to appear at the carousel. The clock said 1:40 am by the time everybody was safely loaded in the car. They arrived at Tuacahn about 4 am Arizona time (5 am Utah time; 6 am Texas time). It was a test in patience. But the next morning, the little girls snuck into our bedroom and squealed as they jumped on their daddy. It had been a full month since we had seen him. (NOTE: Blueberry is still alive and being cared for by Lindsay Graham.) It was a great scene of family happiness (and everyone did take afternoon naps).
We spent the next two days swimming, throwing balls on the lawn, putting, and hiking at the Tuacahn home. Stephen went with the Lewis crew to watch Mindy perform in the lead role of Mary Poppins at the Tuacahn Theater on Friday night. She was fabulous—practically perfect in every way. We celebrated CJ’s birthday at CafĂ© Rio on Saturday night and said good-bye to Mom, Dad, Ed, Kelvin, CJ and Taryn. We are migrating to Leon’s home, while the Lewis family is headed home. We’ve spent nearly five weeks enjoying our summer vacation with Grandma Lewis in the driver’s seat. It was a little tough to say goodbye. Luckily, there should be enough distractions at Leon’s home to keep the girls from dissolving into tears.
