9 Days off from school + 1 Visit from Grandma Lewis = AN AMAZING SPRING BREAK!
We were lucky to celebrate Grandma's birthday with her at our house. We treated her to Babe's Chicken and the delights of an early blue bonnet season (don't forget the bluebell ice cream). We took long walks and field trips daily around the area. But if you ask any of my children, the highlight was a trip to the American Girl Doll Store where they oohed and ahhhed while I said "no" to everything. Luckily, Grandma has a very special talent. She is a whiz with a needle. So we hit the nearest thrift store, bought extras of the girls' dresses and she went to town. It took me over a week to pick up all of the threads left around the house and I unfortunately picked up a pin or two in my foot along the way. But, it was worth it...just check out these creations!!
Picture A. Grandma teaches Ella a running stitch.
Picture B. With leftover scraps, my mom creates three original dresses in what she named the "folk dance" look.
Picture C. With one extra-large matching Christmas dress, my mom remade three doll dresses, plus capes to match.
Picture D. We used cheap jeans from the thrift store and leftover fabric to piece together some classic combos.
Picture E. Using an extra-large matching Easter dress, grandma remade three doll dresses AND she used the netting under the skirt to make doll tutus.
Picture F. With a $2 bedskirt we found at a thrift store, my mom created three original doll dresses, plus three matching skirts for my girls.
Picture G. Grandma financed a trip to JoAnns so that each of my girls could choose their favorite fabric and create a skirt.
Picture H. Grandma and Ella busy at work.
Picture I. We'll call this last picture: "Sew Crazy!" Can you believe my mom can get that much done in one week!! I didn't even include the pictures of the new drapes she made for me, or the five pillow covers and all of the mending. She is definitely amazing.
My girls can't wait until she comes back again!
