The world shifted as we dropped off our first child at kindergarten this week. I had tried to prepare Ella for this change by waking her up earlier the week previous, but it was still pretty hard to shake her awake at 6:30 (see picture below). Luckily, by the time Daddy loaded her up in the car at 7:20, she was ready and excited about her new dress, her backpack and lunch. (Note: It is a Lewis family tradition to be dropped off on the first day of school by Dad--even as a senior in high school, I was chauffeured by Dad that day.) Daddy reports that Ella seemed a little nervous but she bravely took her seat in class that day and joined in the activities. There were no tears by Ella or Daddy!
Day #1
Lauren: How was your first day at school?
Ella: It was good and I like school and I like meeting new friends. I met a girl named Riley. She has curly brown hair and she was wearing a purple shirt and her shoes are white and pink and yellow and blue. And I like to play with her. We learned all the rules like you can't play with knives at home.

Day #2
Lauren: How was school today?
Ella: I like Mrs. Grimes. I like when she teaches us. We do circle time and she shows us things on the smart board. My favorite time of the day is lunchtime because it's fun. I like to make pictures too.
Day #3
Lauren: How was school today?
Ella: I got another great mark at school today. Some people got in trouble. One boy got in trouble for saying: "I didn't learn anything today." And Mommy, you forgot to put a snack in my bag today. (Mommy did not get all great marks this week--mommy's tired with the new early schedule change.)

Day #4
Lauren: How was school today?
Ella: I got to be the mystery kid today. The mystery kid gets to do the calendar and they interviewed me. They asked me my favorite toy and I said Barbies.
NOTE: By Day #4, Ella assured her Daddy that: "I can walk into school all by myself Daddy. You just drop me off in that circle there."
Day #5
Lauren: How was school today?
Ella: It was great, but I'm glad tomorrow is Saturday and I can have a break.
I am glad for the weekend too. I have missed my Ella at home (and Kayla really misses Ella). She is now outside the house more hours than she is in it (if you don't count the sleeping hours). It's hard to believe she is becoming so grown up! We are so proud of her.

Congratulations on surviving the first week! It makes me really glad we have afternoon kindergarten! :)
I love her first day of school dress. We are also adjusting to a new, earlier schedule with two in school. Why can't school start at 10?
So fun! We could only walk our kids into the classroom the first day of school. Was he able to walk in with her all week? Neat. I'm sure it made a lot of them more comfortable. I can totally see Ella being independent though. Seems so like her.
Yay Ella! And yay Lauren for getting up so early every day! It is not my favorite thing, this early schedule ;) Anna has that same dress, and also the floral print one that she decided to wear to her first day. I'm glad to see that they still have a few matching outfits :) I love the dad take the kids to their first day of school tradition.
I can't believe our kids are so big!!!
Miss you guys!!
I am glad she had a good first week! My boys had Mrs Grimes and I really liked her. I hope she has a wonderful year
