I am involved with a co-op preschool group for kids Ella's age and it was my turn to host preschool in May. I decided that we should do a big end of the year unit on theater, because let's face it, dressing up is just fun when you are five! So I got to work and wrote out a script that involved all eleven of these cute kids and their favorite characters.
And then the real work began. We started the unit by choreographing the musical numbers in the play--the kids were enthused and they were awesome at following directions. In the following weeks, we discussed lighting, sound, costuming, set design, directing and acting.

Finally, the day of the big performance arrived. Superman, Bob the Builder, The Big Bad Wolf, Little Piggie, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Wicked Witch, Dora, Gretel, Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood all showed up early for a last run-through and make-up touch-ups. Moms and Dads then showed up for the big event. Tickets were taken, concessions were grabbed, lights dimmed and the show began. Let's just say that while the older kids remembered their parts, a few minutes into it, the younger kids (including Kayla) had abandoned the play for the sandbox! Oh well, it was still a fabulous preschool production and I think the kids all had a wonderful time. We had an after performance cast party picnic with our moms. Thanks for coming everyone!
